“Staff offer children a broad range of healthy options for snack, encouraging them to make positive food choices. Children learn about road safety rules as they walk to the fenced outdoor play area. Good links with the local school ensure children are emotionally well supported when they move on to school. For example, children who stay for lunch are able to eat their meals at the primary school. Children enjoy social mealtimes. Staff sit with the children and effectively support them to adopt good table manners”. Ofsted 2015
Lunch time session
Children attending the Lunch time session can either bring their own packed lunch, or have a freshly cooked hot meal, with dessert, prepared onsite at Bramfield Primary School. Click here to see the lunch menu.
We encourage families to provide healthy packed lunches. Please see link for ideas on healthy packed lunches.
Please have a look at Our fees and funding for the lunch time session and school dinner costs.
Snacks are offered in the form of a ‘rolling snack’ bar where children choose when to come for snack when the snack bar is open. Children develop confidence when they can make their own choices and a ‘rolling snack time’ means that they do not have to interrupt their play and learning. An adult sits with the children during snack time and children are encouraged to interact. The learning experience continues as children learn about healthy eating and lifestyles and count out the pieces of fruit on offer.
The children are encouraged to be independent by:
- Pouring milk from jugs.
- Using table knives.
- Taking on responsible roles such as accessing and distributing cups, plates and food items.
Healthy snacks are given during breaks in the morning and afternoon sessions.
Milk and water are provided at snack time.
Fresh drinking water is available throughout the sessions for children to access themselves. We like to provide a wide variety of healthy snacks.
